Here's a few rare and scary "behind the scenes" photos of the
HIP HOP BE BOP VIDEO SHOOT ! (1983)
VIDEO NOTES:
Hip Hop Be Bop Video (1984):
...is the original video, from 1984. Filmed for just $500 US dollars ! It was filmed in Man's downtown NYC loft. (Man didn't pay his rent that month) Joey Arias is in this video, shot by Co-Directions video company. Sony picked it up and released it in their "DansPack" video series.
Hip Hop Be Bop (DownTown Institute NYC ) Long Version:
...is a much longer version of the file above. It was compiled for a live presentation for the NYC Downtown Fashion Institute in NYC (2003). It ALSO contains a video intro from Man Parrish and the same JOHN SEX video listed below, which Man Parrish produced. The whole file is 11 minutes long. You can "save downloading time" by watching the Hip Hop Video and The John Sex video individually. The only difference in this larger file is that you can see Man Parrish in the intro.
Deep With You Video:
...is With Kevin Kiely (who passed away several years ago). Man did the music, Kevin sang and did the lyrics. Beautiful song ! Man and Kevin had a group called "FABOO!" and wrote dozens of great songs together.
John Sex Rock Your Body Video:
... Downtown NYC"Kitsch / Camp" artist John Sex and Man Parrish produced the music and video. John was locally famous for his BIG hair doo's. This video was done on one of the early, expensive, "paint-box" video systems. The CARS also used a similar system for their early videos. We had a friend who worked for Saturday Night Live. He snuck us into Broadway Video (SNL company) late nights, to do the video effects for free ! We were so poor back then.. lol !
Shox Lumania:
...was a very popular "Art-Rock" Band that Man Parrish and LARRY SHOX formed in the late 1970's in NYC. Larry wrote lyrics, Man did the music and the stage sets, Brian Damage used to "dumpster dive" late night, into local trash dumpsters in NYC's "garment district" for scrap fabric. Brian did amazing costumes for the band. Each song had individual costumes, sets and a staged "theme". In these videos, Man has pink hair, and a bit too much make-up !! He also had, green blue, purple, white and rainbow hair "hair days" back then...
Klaus Nomi Movie Trailer:
...Klaus Nomi was a good friend of Man Parrish. Man played keyboards on both of his albums, and helped with Klaus' live shows. Klaus sang on Man's first album on the track titled "Six Simple Synthesizers". This video clip is the movie trailer, for the documentary on his life called "The Nomi Song". Man is in the black shirt and hat. The movie was well recieved with great critic reviews.
Bee Hive Ballet Filmscore
...Artists/Dancers Jim Self and Frank Moore asked Man to score their film ballet From 1985. The file is 15 minutes long, so it's a large download (26 meg). The audio was kept to mono to save in files size. As well as the playback size, to prevent the file from being massive. This "home-brew" film has won several awards, and has been performed live onstage, in New York and Paris. The film was reciently show in NYC at The New Museum in their "East Village, NYC" showing, along with Keith Herring and Ann Magnuson to name a few. The film was shot with no audio, so Man did the music and funny sound effects. The sets and costumes were "home made", but the film has a wonderful charm to it. - ENJOY !
